New portfolio & Steve Wills sign up

I've spent the last few days trying to re-brand myself and layout my portfolio at the same time in preparation for this sign up with Steve Will of B&W Studio. I actually got pretty nervous about it at some points - but he was really down to earth and very complimentary about my work. I think even if nothing comes of this, it was so nice to have someone you've admired for a while to be so positive about your work, a good confidence boost if nothing else!

I think I'm going to make some changes to my work and follow up this meeting with an update of how I'm getting on. I was really encouraged to hear him talk about some of the things I've outlined in my new position statement as well - he was talking about a range of different, interesting applications for brands that I'm coming up with. Which is exactly what I want to do in the next few months!

Perhaps the most surprising thing was that he thought my 2nd year 'Rant' project was the best, the most interesting and the one with the strongest concept. The most annoying thing is, on reflection he's probably right...

Bark & Bite Feature

I didn't ever hear back from these guys after last Easter, and as I was starting to move away from motion graphics I just kinda let it go I guess..
But it's really encouraging to see they used a screen shot from the piece I did on their website!
I didn't get a mention, but it's a good excuse to get in touch with them again and say thank-you.. Especially now I'm back on the motion graphics again!

I'll keep you updated!

Collaboration - Music Video

I met up with a friend from back home a few months ago - he told me he needed to collaborate with another 'creative' as part of his degree in music.. So I suggested making a music video. This was something I longed to do for a while anyway - but I've had so much other things on I didn't have time to submit it as part of OUGD301.

Anyway, here's a brief overview of what we came up with!

Development

Final Render

The ideas behind this were loosely based on 8-bit music and graphics working together... but I will admit I started to push it away from that towards the end of our disucssions. If I'm brutally honest, all I wanted out of this collaboration was to find out how this guy did the awesome video below. Turns out, it's a lot hard than it looks. I've admired this for a long time anyway, and would be really happy if I could achieve something similar one day. Perhaps something to think about for FMP?

I LOVE IT SO MUCH!
I still have no idea who did it - the internet tells me it had something to do with Designers Republic, but I'm not sure...

Live Brief - Event Promo

Been ages since I did anything grungy.. I'm happy with it as a direction though, considering it's such a quick turnaround.

I think I prefer the purely grey scale ones, there's some subtle colour in the 3rd one down - But the more I do these past few months, it seems the less colour I'm using, or if I do it's absolutely minimal...  Hmm.

Type variations of some promo work for a friend, she's holding an event to raise funds for her degree show..
